Vicinity Centres announced a trial of blockchain technology that, in the future, will enable Vicinity’s shopping centers to supply energy to neighboring communities who connect to its secure power network. The project focuses on deploying Power Ledger’s peer to peer energy trading platform at a shopping center in Australia. Blockchain technology as part of Vicinity’s AUD$28 million industry leading rooftop solar program. The blockchain technology will enable Vicinity to manage its energy use and distribution in near real-time, switching between solar and national grid energy.

Power Ledger, a blockchain technology solutions provider, looks to find new areas to deploy their peer to peer energy trading platforms. Vicinity Centers, Australian Real Estate Investment Company, is using Power Ledger's blockchain-based platform to manage energy usage from its rooftop solar projects in South and Western Australia.

"In April 2019, Vicinity rolled out the largest investment in Australia for rooftop solar in shopping centers. The blockchain trial began at Castle Plaza Shopping Centre in South Australia as part of Vicinity’s $75 million industry-leading solar programs.
