What does the project do and how does it work?
BCPG, renewable energy developer, will jointly develop Chaing Mai university towards becoming a smart and clean campus under the University's Master Plan for Energy and the Environment. This project focuses on studying consumer's energy consumption behavior. Using smart distribution network, that connects and communicates to University’s Smart Campus Management Center. Chiang Mai University company plans to study consumers’ energy consumption behavior by using Power Ledger’s peer-to-peer (P2P) energy trading platform.
Who is involved in the project and why?
This project is led by Chiang Mai University. Chiang Mai University selected BCPG, a renewable energy generator, and developer, for installing 12 MW solar rooftop system and a smart distribution network that connects and communicates with the University’s Smart Campus Management Center using existing information technology system. Power Ledger, a blockchain technology solutions provider, will provide automated reconciliation and settlement as well as virtual power plant (VPP) services. Chiang Mai University plans to study consumers’ energy consumption behavior using Power Ledger’s peer-to-peer (P2P) energy trading platform.
Where is the project located and what is the size of the region of impact?
The pilot is implemented across 3 PEA zones i.e Suan Sak, Suan Dok, and Mae Hia areas to sell electricity to the university for 20 years.
What is the problem statement that is being addressed with this project?
Blockchain provides technology for digital interactions, energy monitoring, and sharing excess energy from solar rooftops among neighbors.
