What does the project do and how does it work?
Exergy combines blockchain’s decentralized digital ledger technology with LO3 Energy's innovative methods for capitalizing on energy and data. This platform was created as a permissioned data platform to build localized marketplaces for transacting energy across existing grid infrastructure. At present Exergy looks to influence the energy model of the future, through three primary use cases:
1. Peer-to-Peer Energy Networks:
On the Exergy platform, prosumers—generating energy through their own renewable resource—can transact energy autonomously in near-real time with consumers on the platform in their local marketplace.
2. Distribution System Operator Support:
The distribution system operator (DSO) is granted access to consumer data like building management systems. Using price as a proxy, the DSO manages energy use, load balancing, and demand response at negotiated rates.
3. Establish Transactional EV Markets:
When a charging station—public or private—or an electric vehicle has a surplus of energy. This surplus energy can be made available for purchase on the local network. Via a mobile app, EV owners can set budgets, limits, and be alerted to the availability of market opportunities.
